Letter from Class Catering - School Meals
In light of recent events concerning equine DNA being found in some minced beef and meat products we would like to reassure you that all meat purchased by Class Catering through our supplier, Creed Foodservice is free from equine DNA. We, through our Quality accreditation and standards have a high level of confidence in the products we source from our suppliers and pride ourselves that the meat and ingredients being purchased for use in our menus is good quality and fully traceable. To confirm this, we have received confirmation that all the fresh meat products we buy are free from equine DNA, we have also received confirmation from beef suppliers to Creed Foodservice that they do not deal with any slaughterers that trade in horse meat.
As of the 18th February 2013 we have received additional confirmation that beef burgers purchased from Creed Foodservice (Country Range Brand) have tested clear from the presence of non- bovine DNA (horse-meat) and the meat products they supply meet stringent, legal requirements and their own high standards. (See attached letter).
In view of this please be advised that whilst initially we had issued advice to remove beef burgers from our menus we are pleased to advise that they will now remain on our menu (week 4) However, Catering Managers have been advised they can make their own if they prefer.
This very positive result, we have always maintained that we consider quality to be of the utmost importance in the service we provide, it is a reflection of our high standards, care in sourcing from suppliers, who meet our exacting standards, and to the fact that we prepare the vast majority of our menu items from fresh products. All of this gives us greater control over quality, ensures we give our customers the best food service possible and can provide complete customer confidence in the foods we serve every day.
To reassure Pupils, Parents, Teachers, Headteachers and Governors we will be providing information that can be displayed in the dining room and placed upon your own website. This information will also be available on our own website should customers wish to view it.
Kind regards
