Art Curriculum Overview Year 6 – Year 13
This is an outline of the Art curriculum for students offered by the Federation of Evesham High School and Simon de Montfort Middle School.
KS2 Outline
In Year 6, pupils at Simon de Montfort Middle School have the equivalent of one lesson of Art per week. During that time pupils explore Art from different times and cultures and practise a variety of skills, techniques and processes. KS3 Outline
Art is a Foundation subject throughout KS3. In Years 7, 8 and 9 pupils have the equivalent of one lesson of Art per week. In Year 7 pupils work on theme based projects e.g. self-identity. In Year 8, they continue to work on their experiences from Year 7 and work in 2 and 3dimensions on extended projects. These can be inspired by Artists or Artefacts from different times and cultures e.g. Kate Malone ceramics. In Year 9, pupils consolidate their artistic skills and understanding by producing further personal, imaginative and practical work. 2D and 3D skills such as Painting, Drawing, 3D and Ceramics are developed to a higher level. KS4 Outline
Pupils can opt to study GCSE Fine Art at Evesham High School and pupils who opt for this subject begin the course in May of Year 9. The AQA GCSE Fine Art specification is followed. In Years 10 and 11 pupils produce practical and written work in their sketchbooks.
There is also an opportunity for pupils to study the AQA Entry Level Art course. The AQA Entry Level specification is followed. In Years 10 and 11pupils produce three sustained studies selected from a range of themes set by the examination board. Read more.
KS5 Outline
Students can opt to study A Level Fine Art at Evesham High School. To gain entry onto this course a GCSE grade B or above is required. In Year 12, students work on two units. Unit one is a sustained study set by the school, which builds into a body of work; the coursework portfolio and Unit two is the externally set examination, here pupils can select one of the themes set by the examination board.
